Actually there are many Swine flu conspiracies currently spreading on the internet.
One conspiracy being blogged about on One World Order conspiracy sites is that this swine flu (H1N1) has been manufactured in a lab and is a globalist conspiracy to force martial law in the fall when new flu shots will be on the market. They believe that this forced martial law and forced flu shots will be just an excuse to confiscate all guns in the United States. Then with all guns confiscated, there will be a One World government put into place. These are also the same groups that believe that 911 was a US government operation
Another conspiracy theory is that H1N1 was engineered in a lab by terrorists and started in Mexico so the illegal immigrants would spread this flu into the United States as a terrorist attack. But most scientists do not believe that terrorists have the knowledge to manufacture such a virus.
Along with these two conspiracies, is another one which again involves a lab developed virus that spreads mainly in the Mexican community as a government way to stop the illegal immigration problem. This would open up jobs in the United States that are currently being filled by immigrants and making them available for unemployed US citizens.
Of course, there is also the theory that the flu vaccine for this virus has already been developed by a pharmaceutical company and this virus was released so that this company could rush their vaccine to market and corner the market with their product. And of course, members of the board of directors of this company are many political leaders and bankers.
As with all conspiracy theories there are a few facts that are true but are then manipulated into scenarios that are outlandish and then spread worldwide on the internet. So each theory has many believers and only makes the efforts to contain the spread of this virus more difficult. There has been a recent report of a vaccine being produced with officials recommending a 3-shot flu vaccine for the upcoming flu season next fall and winter. This of course only spreads conspiracy theories further.
Mexico is reporting that H1N1 might have reached its peak. As of May 6th, they have currently 1112 laboratory confirmed cases of H1N1 flu with 42 deaths. In the United States, the number of laboratory confirmed cases is 896 in 41 states with 2 deaths reported in the state of Texas.
The following countries have reported confirmed cases with no deaths – Austria (1), Canada (201), China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (1), Colombia (1), Costa Rica (1), Denmark (1), El Salvador (2), France (5), Germany (9), Guatemala (1), Ireland (1), Israel (4), Italy (5), Netherlands (1), New Zealand (5), Portugal (1), Republic of Korea (2), Spain (73), Sweden (1), Switzerland (1) and the United Kingdom (28).
The World Health Organization currently advises no restrictions on travel or border closings. Humans can not get this virus from eating pork or pork products. This virus is not a food born disease. A report released today by WHO believe that over 2 billion people could be affected if this virus becomes a pandemic with most pandemics lasting for 2 years.
