Swine flu is a respiratory disease caused by h1n1 viruses. People also know swine flu as Mexican flu, pig flu, hog flu and H1N1 influenza. Swine flu is known so because laboratory tests confirmed that most of the genes of this virus are similar to the flu virus that generally infects pigs of North America. It was also assumed that people living with pigs have higher chances of getting infected with swine flu virus. But further studies showed that this virus is different from the virus which causes influenza in pigs. So World health organization has removed the letter s from the word swine and renamed it as A(h1n1). It has also been proved that one cannot be infected even if he eats the properly cooked infected pork or pork products. The swine flu viruses spread in air and enter the human body from the droplets of cough and sneeze of an infected person. During this period an infected person can make others also infected so it is suggested to them to remain away from the crowd and family members. If anyone is infected in a family then the other members should not share thing with him for some days to be prevented from the virus.
